Together Against Threats to Karura’s Future, United for a Greener Nairobi
The Parklands Residents Association (PRA) proudly reaffirms its unwavering support for the Friends of Karura Forest (FKF) in their ongoing mission to safeguard and sustain Karura Forest—one of Nairobi’s most treasured green spaces.
Karura Forest is a living symbol of resilience, community spirit, and environmental stewardship. Thanks to FKF’s leadership and dedication, it has been transformed into a sanctuary for biodiversity, a world-class model of urban conservation, and a source of health and inspiration for thousands of Nairobi residents and visitors.
Today, PRA stands firmly with FKF in their ongoing dispute with the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) over matters that threaten the forest’s sustainable management and the remarkable progress achieved over the years. We reject any measures that undermine FKF’s critical role in the stewardship of Karura Forest and call for the immediate restoration of collaborative, transparent, and community-led management practices.
A Shared Vision: “Go Green”
Our shared motto, “Go Green,” reflects more than just a slogan—it is a commitment to protecting Nairobi’s green heritage. PRA and FKF are united in their vision to preserve Karura Forest as a safe, thriving, and accessible haven for all, and we believe that citizen-driven conservation must remain at the heart of its management.
Areas of Partnership and Action
PRA pledges to work alongside FKF to:
Champion Advocacy: Amplify FKF’s voice in ensuring community interests are respected in all forest-related decisions.
Strengthen Environmental Education: Inspire future generations through awareness campaigns and eco-programs for schools and residents.
Mobilize Communities: Unite Nairobians in tree planting, clean-ups, and conservation projects to safeguard our city’s ecosystem.
Support Sustainable Funding: Advocate for fair, transparent, and equitable systems to finance forest protection and community initiatives.
Defend Green Spaces: Use Karura as a shining example to expand green conservation efforts across Nairobi.
Our United Stand
Karura Forest’s future is a shared responsibility. PRA stands shoulder-toshoulder with FKF in opposing any policies or actions that compromise the
forest’s integrity, transparency in its management, or the vital role of community-driven leadership.
We urge the Kenya Forest Service and all stakeholders to work in good faith with FKF, respect the spirit of collaboration, and prioritize conservation over bureaucracy.
Karura Forest is not just a park; it is a national treasure. Together with FKF, we vow to protect it for today’s citizens and tomorrow’s generations.
With solidarity and resolve
